  • My trip to King George County on a Monday, was my first visit to this park. I met Ranger Teresa at the parking lot, conducting her rounds. She assisted me with information about the park and even gave me a brief tour of the 1920's house, that serves as the Visitor Center. My arrival was during the transition to a new(Fall) schedule, whereby the Visitor Center is open on Friday and Saturdays. This is a park your vehicle and walk park. I saw the American Bald Eagle exhibit, learned what snakes to avoid, and observed the children's exhibit room. I then proceeded down Boyd's Hole Trail toward the Potomac River. I had plenty of time for relaxation and reflection upon reaching the beach, as the waves splashed against the sandy shoreline.
  • Traveled yesterday to this beautiful gem. Park rangers were very helpful and informative, includes a small museum in the historical Smoot House onsite, and a lovely beach in its natural state. I even saw a gorgeous eagle in the distance! All in all, a must see park to visit.
  • Great state park. There isnt a large parking area but you reachbit quickly once driving in. You do have to walk a couple miles round trip to reach the water. I didnt get a chance to go in and visit the visitor center since I had an infant with me. The Boyd's Hole trail is well maintained since it is a wide gravel road. The beach along the river is nice to reach and while was there a park ranger was leading a group volunteering to clean the shore which did have a lot of litter from washing up on the Potomac. Trails are well maintained my only gripe is the trains that arenin the woods like the Fern Hollow, Poplar Grove, laurel glen and benchmark looked less maintained and had tons of debris on trail, blow downs, some widow makers (keep your eye out) and are built in a way to wash out during heavy rains. The old growth forest was beautiful though and there are some large poplar trees back in there.
  • I had an amazing time here. Such a beautiful and well-maintained park. A buddy and I camped for 2 nights. We had the entire campground to ourselves right on the Potomac. It's about a 3 mile hike to the campgrounds, so definitely don't bring anything that you don't want to haul miles. The nice part though is that the trail to get there is a small gravel road with just a few small hills, so you could always bring a wagon to haul stuff. Shout out to Vera Scott for being extremely helpful and knowledgeable. She's a very friendly Ranger who knows her stuff and is willing to help when needed. 10/10. I would highly recommend this park to anyone who loves the outdoors. I will definitely be coming again.
  • We had an amazing time at the Full Moon Kayak Tour! Ranger Mike was awesome and so knowledgeable about the history of the area! Definitely recommend and will be going again!
