Wailua River State Park and the Wailua Complex of Heiaus, which it includes, are located on the eastern side of the Hawaiian island of Kauai. The park consists primarily of the Wailua River valley, which is the only navigable river in Hawaii. Visitors to this park can kayak, take riverboat cruises and explore the rainforest. Stopped by this lovely gem while staying at the Hilton. There were families swimming, there is a lovely playground and lots of grounds for the kids to burn off some energy.

My wife and I had a great time kayaking and hiking through this area. It was a beautiful day with bright blue skies and it could not have been more scenic. Take your time and enjoy this park.

This is a spectacularly beautiful and moderately challenging trail. Be sure to leave earlier than you think if it’s your first time - this trail is poorly marked and downed trees, mud, etc. leads to fairly frequent changes to the trail. Regardless, it’s worth it. One of the best hikes I’ve been on (and the best I’ve done in Kauai).

Absolutely awesome state park. Came here on a guided Kayak tour with Kayak Wailua and had an absolute blast hiking to the secret falls (Uluwehi Waterfalls). Although there were a large number of people docked on the beach making the trek over so if you were to do it alone, you could probably just follow behind a tour guide group and have no trouble whatsoever. Easy paddling without a strong current in either direction. Waterfall is breathtaking and very secluded with no access without a boat/hike.

Such a great day kayaking this river, hiking in, and enjoying the gorgeous waterfall. We rented from bring us a kayak and they were amazing! We opted not to do a tour as we wanted to be on our own time and not be with a group. If you're comfortable kayaking and hiking then I personally like that best alone with your travel partner. Also this (hopefully) allows you to have some waterfall time between tour groups if you're lucky. I'd go out early, bring some snacks (or a lunch) and make sure to have some water shoes with some tread on them for the water crossings and muddier areas (not too bad but there are some spots that can get slippery, it's likely always a bit wet). One of our favorite things we did on the island. Definitely recommend. Wear sunscreen ☺️☀️☀️

We did a kayak tour of a portion of the river, then hiked to a "secret waterfall". Given the number of people there, it definitely wasn't a secret. Much of the trail to the waterfall was on a built up wooden path, which made it fairly easy to traverse. The other part of the trail was following a very narrow path through really tall brush. Overall, the trail wasn't very strenuous, but definitely bring bug spray (I ended up with about 70 bug bites on my arms and legs). Overall, it is a beautiful park and much of the scenery was breathtaking!

Took the river boat to the fern grotto! Loved it! Loved the hula and entertainment! Weather was perfect! I do love Kauai! The best island and best people!
