Create an itinerary including Na Pali Coast State Park
The rugged coastline of Hawaii's oldest inhabited island, Na Pali Coast State Park, can only be reached by hiking, kayaking, or paddleboarding. If you're not feeling that adventurous, consider taking a guided boat tour or helicopter ride around the coast. However, this natural beauty is worth the hike (or kayak ride). The cliffs, or pali, jut straight out of the water and are marked with small, narrow valleys and caves formed by strong seawater. Camping on the beach overnight is also a popular option here; just remember that you need to pay for a permit to do so. Put Na Pali Coast State Park on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Wainiha trip maker.

  • We didn't have the best weather and the boat ride was a bit wet, got rained on, twice! Still, very impressive cliffs and the history is interesting.

  • Such a beautiful place. We learned that you need to get to this view early in the morning, before 9am if you want to enjoy the beauty of the view. It is breathtaking. This view point is not hard to get as you can just drive and walk a few steps to the observatory area. There is a parking lot near the row very convenient as well. There are different hikes and trails around the area. Lovely place to take friends and family.
  • Absolutely stunning! Exceptional views even if you hike the first few miles. The beach is beautiful as well. Wear hiking shoes--the mud is extremely slippery when wet. The trek is a bit difficult, but well worth it.
  • We did the two mile hike from the Na Pali state park to this spot. It was a challenging hike but awesome, and the destination was totally worth it. There are cliffs, caves, ride pools, rocks and trees to discover. So much fruit on the way to pick and eat. I would plan 5 hours for the hike (an hour per mile plus time at the beach). Bring snacks and water. No swimming allowed.
  • Majestic wonder of the world! AMAZING Enjoyed 17 miles of the Na Pali Coast of Kauai from the water. Explored the cliffs and caves along the coast and even saw Hawaiian Sea turtles. Definetly will be back and do the tour hiking next time. Make sure to plan ahead and book entry into the state park ahead of time. We made the mistake of poor planning and weren’t able to get in via State Park so had to book an excursion to get out there.
  • A must see for both visitors and locals. Hawaii residents and military do not have to pay for parking. Remember to take your motion sickness remedy prior to starting up this long and windy road. Multiple stopping areas for restroom or photos, and there's even a museum and camp grounds near the top. I recommend driving all the way to the end for a breathtaking panoramic view of the Napali coast. Take the time to read the information signs and learn about the history of each area.
