Originally constructed in 1677, Bruton Parish Episcopal Church still functions today and represents the oldest continuously operating church in America. The church, originally the result of a conglomeration of parishes, served as one of the epicenters of life in colonial Virginia; today it sits in the living history town of Colonial Williamsburg. Learn more about the church's history, societal importance, and 20th century restoration by paying a visit and following the recommended self-guided tour through the grounds. Throughout the yard you'll find the graves of prominent individuals and families since the colonial era, many of which rest in rare and well-preserved table tombs. As an active institution, the church is open for worship and services, so be sure to check the schedule for information on these and other events, such as concerts. Very nice historic church. They still perform services and I wish I had the chance to attend one. There is a suggested donation of $1 for entry. Wonderful.

Beautiful church that I enjoyed visiting and attending a service on a blustery January day. The weather kept most of the tourists at bay so I'm sure the Parishioner to Visitor ratio was high. The service was a classical Episcopalian service but without music. Probably because I am an early riser and attended the 8:00am service. For some reason they did not want participants to perform intinction (dipping bread in wine). In this post pandemic world, I don't know if that's for "health" reasons or if it's just a "house rule". Either way, it was novel for me. Definitely a wonderful living historical building that's almost a must visit location. I still remember a PBS woodworking show visiting to see the old carpentry in the building and would have loved to tour the building more on another visit.

Beautiful old church in Colonial Williamsburg. I love the beautiful pulpit and the beautiful lectern. Such a sense of history and heritage. Highly recommended.

Attended an evening organ and harpsichord concert. Both rhe music and the church building are extraordinarily beautiful.
