Create an itinerary including Governor's Palace
See where royal governors and the state's first two elected governors, including Thomas Jefferson, once lived. Governor's Palace gives insight into how Virginia’s powerful men lived in colonial times. Destroyed by a fire in 1781, the current palace has been reconstructed based on the original foundation and archaeological evidence that survived the fire. Walk in the footsteps of some of Virginia’s most influential men as you explore the many lavish rooms decorated with weaponry from the period. In the gardens behind the palace, guides in period dress perform re-enactments of historical events that took place here. The guided tour is a must. • This is the best place in Colonial Williamsburg in my opinion. The muskets and swords are beautiful and the interpreters do a great job. Don't miss this tour.

  • It was a great tour. We did buy tickets to be able to enter all the buildings that were open on Christmas Day. The entire area and the people that ran the tour were all friendly. The weather was beautiful to be able to walk around and enjoy all the Christmas decorations and wreaths on all the houses. Each house had a different wreath they were made with different fruits and shells, etc. They were absolutely beautiful!
  • Highly recommended! This area is just so beautiful, with a lot of history. There’s so many things to do and see, and the tour was just wonderful, about 30 minutes long, our guide did a fantastic job! Great for kids and adults. And the kids loved the maze too!
  • The tour was awesome. I loved the entrance when you walk in; it is high class and makes quite the statement! The gardens in the back are cool and the maze is more fun than I thought it'd be.
  • This was a great place to start on my day in Williamsburg. The staff on site were very nice and I learned a lot about life during this time. If you have time, you gotta take the tour of the house but just as important is the grounds.Even on a sorta cold day in February, the grounds were a great walk as you can see from the pictures I added. I am sure once spring comes it will come to life more.
  • The tour was longer than we wanted. Only 1 day in Williamsburg. Governor's Palace tour could've been half the amount of time ~ 1 hour total. Still an interesting place to visit if you have the time. The kids enjoyed the garden maze behind the palace more.
