Surrounded by lush gardens, Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library houses an eclectic collection of artworks and everyday items from the past. The 404 hectare (1000 acre) estate used to be the home of antiques collector and botanist Henry Francis du Pont. He established the museum, and its collection kept growing even after his death in 1969. Although the museum displays about 90,000 artifacts from all over the world, its main focus is on American cultural heritage. The library holds hundreds of thousands of publications, including some very rare books and periodicals. The museum garden has more than 7,500 plant species and features play areas for kids and families. • We always love Winterthur, but this year they have added an adorable, but huge, toy train layout as part of their Christmas display. The theme is Christmas, and the layout is populated with little...

  • What a delightful place to visit! I suggest taking the thirty minute guided tram tour through the property in order to have a better idea of all that Winterthur offers. I didn’t have the opportunity to tour the home as it was a last minute trip and so no reservations were available, but will return another day. The grounds were absolutely beautiful and gave my husband and I a workout as we walked through the various gardens. My favorite was the whimsical Enchanted Woods. Visited the museum and the Jacqueline Kennedy exhibit. You can bring a picnic lunch or dine at the on-property cafe. Overall a wonderful place to spend the afternoon and prices were reasonable ($22) Adults, ($20) Seniors and Students, ($8) children (under 2) free. We were told that during the spring season, various flowers and bushes are in full bloom. Will be back!
  • If I lived closer, I guarantee you that I would buy a year pass!! This was my first visit here as I was enjoying a two week road trip last May. My husband and I went, expecting to maybe spend a couple hours and then stayed all day! We road the tram- lovely gentlemen gave us a great tour. We took the house tour- friendly hosts in each room to explain and answer questions...beautiful and interesting! We walked the galleries, Dupont was such an amazing collector, so much to see! BUT, my favorite. The gardens!! In May the azaleas were in bloom. I have never in my life seen so many, paths crossed other paths through Azalea Woods. Spectacular. These gardens were also designed so that something new was blooming every three weeks. Wow, this is a must experience!
  • A beautiful house filled with antiques and history — a “must see” when in the Brandywine Valley! The tour guides are very knowledgeable, the house is especially resplendent during their “Yuletide” season. The tram tour of the gardens is great and you’ll get a lot of history and information, I recommend doing that first before touring the house. You can spend hours wandering around the beautiful gardens though.
  • This is a beautiful place that we have been to numerous times. We came back today for the Marketplace Festival. It was great. We did not do the tour of the house. Our main point of the visit was to explore the grounds and check out the marketplace. There are lots of paved paths that I could navigate with my scooter. The bathrooms were easily accessible. The vendors were mainly on the grass which was a bit of a challenge but I was able to navigate it. There are shuttles all over the property that I could’ve gotten on with my scooter. We went to the cafe for lunch which was ok. It wasn’t my favorite. They had an ok selection of food. I got a hot dog which wasn’t very hot.
  • The enchanted Forest and garden is literally one of the coolest places I've ever taken my young daughter. Restrooms are close there's so many families here with their little kids they're all dressed up as butterflies or princesses or fairies. I dress my girl up like a princess. Magical
