Beehive Geyser, Yellowstone National Park

We were just walking and some kind gentleman told us to wait and look at this. So we decided to wait. This is one of the best experiences at Yellowstone. The water gusing out was amazing and it felt like you were right in front of a rocket engine. The viewing point is very close to the geyser so you can hear it quite well. Unfortunaley this geyser is not very predictable. There is a mini geyser right beside it which acts as an indicator. So if the mini geyser goes off , the beehive is probably going to erupt soon. We were so lucky that the beehive and old faithful geyser went off at the same time . If anybody mentions that the beehive geyser is going to erupt, drive back and run to this spot. Do not miss this !

My family was in the area when we were told by the park rangers that beehive was set to erupt soon. After about 20 minutes of waiting we got to see an incredible eruption of water, and since it was a bit windy, all that water came pouring down right on top of us (the rangers told us this is called getting stung by the beehive). It was a truly unique experience, and in my opinion, much more worth the wait than old faithful, as we were no more than 30 feet from the geyser.

Easy walk from the parking lot. Fun for all ages. This bison sat right along the sidewalk from Old Faithful to Beehive. We didn't approach it.

A spectacular experience. This is a hugely impressive geyser well worth seeking out and waiting for. It does take some commitment though as it is pretty unpredictable. Generally tho its intervals are consistent enough to give you a couple hour window where it will likely erupt. What you want to watch for is a small geyser a few feet away from Beehive’s cone to begin erupting. This is known as Beehive’s Indicator, and Beehive usually follows roughly 15 minutes after. The eruption is ferocious and demonstrates the incredible pressure underground. It is like being near a jet engine or some colossal pressure washer. Whether you time it just right or stick it out and wait, you’re in for a treat.
