Create an itinerary including Mammoth Hot Springs
A large complex of springs in Yellowstone National Park, Mammoth Hot Springs, was created over thousands of years by hot water from the springs cooling and depositing calcium carbonate. Typically a bleached-white hue, the dramatic terraced sections flow with water originating from rain and snowmelt, causing a frozen cascade effect (though the water that forms this area is extremely hot). The flow of water depends on the environment at any given time, but you can walk the boardwalks along the lower and upper terraces, observing the scenery and wildlife. • I have not seen anything like Mammoth Hot Springs elsewhere in the states. It offers a wow moment and fantastic visions. We have visited multiple times and always have been delighted to see this...

  • Mammoth hot springs is a fascinating part of Yellowstone and the first thing you meet when using the North Entrance. Very extensive boardwalks allow great views of the terraces and springs.

  • Our family had been to Yellowstone a couple of times, but we had never done the north side. Mammoth lives up to its name. There is an upper and lower with different parking areas. Once you park there several boardwalks you can wonder around to see the various parts of Mammoth Hot Springs. We took our 3 girls and they really enjoyed it. There is a small town near by with shops, restaurants, restrooms and park areas.
  • Very cool place to visit. You can drive around the vehicle pathway and see the different parts of it or you can walk around the various parts using the walkway. There were elk all around relaxing near the information center nearby. There is free WiFi in the area too. Also, there is an in park hotel there that you can reserve (reserve at least a year in advance of your visit) less crowded area when I went (around 5:30pm)
  • Lots of boardwalks crisscross up the side of the mountain providing a solid hour of exploration. The hot springs are littered across the hillside with unique geological formations around every turn. The hot springs are completely exposed and the sun reflects off the white rock making the rock formations even more dramatic. This makes for a hot afternoon activity during the summer, but still enjoyable if you’re prepared.
  • Cool thermal feature. Not as colorful as I expected but that may have been due to cloudiness. It's a large area with three levels. There is a boardwalk so you can get some decent exercise hiking the entire thing. If you prefer to drive between the levels, there are parking areas for each level
  • Its a wonder how Bacteria can form such an amazing scriptures with 100’s of colors. Its definitely a watch in yellow stone. Nature is amazing. Due to chemical reactions in that area, it smells like some sort of rotten egg. Again, such a wonderful colors. Definitely a Go To place.
