Create an itinerary including Emerald Pools
Nestled deep within a canyon inside Zion National Park, the pools feature vegetation of moss and ferns that flank the side of the pool, which is fed by the trickling water sprayed from the falls. A 1.6 km (1 mi) trail initially runs along the river, taking you through forests and waterfalls to the lower pool, which is a 45.7 m (150 ft) ascent. From the lower pool, you can choose from a number of more challenging paths that ascend to the middle and upper pools via a looped-track. Be aware that climbing to the upper pool requires a 106.7 m (350 ft.) ascent. The final stretch is hotter and drier, but can take you to cliffs spanning 91 m (300 ft). • What can I say! It's gorgeous! It's a moderate hike not too bad, at least for me that do hikes. The lower pool is nice but the little water fall is the main attraction. However the upper pool is the real main thing. It's has a bigger waterfall and you can take pictures there. You can enjoy the gorgeous view while hiking. This trail is a loop and it took me around 2hrs to do it.
  • Amazing! amazing! Amazing! It was such a cool hike. It's a little rough not that hard. A little slippery with the slippery ice in this snow. I want to try it out in this summer. I definitely will be back... It's just beautiful something I'm definitely coming back to.
  • Very nice hike up to the pool. It is a moderate climb, though the pool at the end is worth it. Great views on the way up and down. Even relatively early in the morning you will be surrounded by people and it can be a slow slog as you wait for all manner of people to pass.
  • We came here in February 2021. The hike is pretty long and annoying at times, but then you look around and see where you are and you're happy. But, there's some challenging spots and the ground is very uneven, so keep that in mind with your footwear choices. Stairs, large rocks, big steps up and down. But, it was worth it to see the Emerald Pool. It's not big, but very clear, still and pretty. A squirrel came to visit us at one point (I didn't feed it, but it looks healthy).
  • The Upper Emerald Pool is the hardest of the Emerald Pools to reach, so it's a good thing its the most picturesque of the three. The pool sits beneath an incredibly high, nearly vertical rock face, with cool color patterns and potentially a waterfall if the flow rates are high enough. The ground around the pool is wet and can be moss covered, so be very careful if you try to explore off-path. As tame as this area seems compared to Angel's Landing and Observation Point, people have died here too. Getting here is a moderate to slightly strenuous hike with a fairly large elevation gain, so it might not be best for people who aren't in decent shape. And if I'm being honest, the views along the hike to the Middle Emerald Pool and along the Kayenta Trail were better than the views you'll see at the Upper Emerald Pool. But if you're in decent shape and have the time, I'd definitely recommend hiking here
