Museo Municipal Dr. Bautista Rebuffo
Explore indigenous archaeology, history, and development at Museo Municipal Dr. Bautista Rebuffo, Colonia's first ever museum. Built in a Portuguese neoclassical architectural style, the museum was modeled on the colonial structures of the 19th century. Indigenous religion, paleontology, stuffed birds, insects, butterflies, natural sciences, and entomology all share space on the museum's premises. Look out for primitive rustic furniture, weaponry, and work tools from the pre-colonisation era. Make Museo Municipal Dr. Bautista Rebuffo part of your personalized Colonia del Sacramento itinerary using our Colonia del Sacramento road trip planner.

Come on now, this is not a museum..... a mix up of historical items does not offer knowledge. It needs a lot of work to earn the title.

Very nice. But, super grotesque. It's like a nightmare. This museum has many rooms and collects every animals and plants in the Island. Butterflies, birds, .. big dinosaur..it's enormous. There were also many historical items. I remember one painting that draws native people who are naked and surround one fire for preparing meals in the nature. Next to it, one brilliant chair and portrait of a man who wears western uniform brilliantly was exhibited. maybe he's brilliant leader of colonialism. To see them, i was surprised that such people killed such just innocent naked people and collected every animals and plants from this island here. Also surprised by a lion heart that puts and shows these portraits next to each other in this house. I guess to give such idea to visitors isn't the intention of this museum. But here unconsciously directly show such raw cruel history, so for me, it was really valuable experience. One huge bone of an ancient turtle(?)was also impressive. It suddenly appears in one room, exhibited without any showcase. Thats bone skin? is mossy and I had never seen such skin. This museum is so diffetent from other sophisticated(controlled)museum.

The larger of the museums in the area and the place where you need to first buy your ticket to see all the others. Friendly staff and a varied exhibit. Definitely worth seeing while in Colonia.
-
Could be good but no way to pay for it unless you plan on exchanging a lot of currency. They don't even accept any cards.
-
All those museums in Colonia del Sacramento are quite small but it doesn't mean there are not fun. Enjoy your trip!
-
It's a nice museum (compare to the others in colonia) to do along with the Portuguese museum on Plaza Mayor.
