Find ingredients for dinner at Port Vila Markets, a market with stalls run by local women from around the island. Hosted in an open-walled building, each stall is filled with quality fruit and vegetables like oranges, beans, peanuts, bananas, eggplant, and other local items you may not be familiar with. If you visit during the summer, do not miss the seasonal sweet raspberries. Keep in mind bargaining is not acceptable and is even considered rude. • I was only there for work but loved the market and thought the fruit was fresh and had a great range to choose from. Nice little warm foods section down the back and you can sit by the water and eat.
  • Love our experience at Port Vila markets. It was authentic, charming and delicious. Will return again soon!
  • Best meal we’ve had, and 1/4 of the price of the restaurants! “Open kitchens”, right beside fresh produce markets, where the locals eat. They only do lunch. We had a massive fish, local vegies and rice dish, and a good vegetarian version we requested. 500vat per meal, as opposed to most restaurant meals $20-$30 vat.
  • A wonderful variety of traditional and modern hand-crafted goods in the market houses that reflect the unique style of Vanuatu. The items are well priced and the stall owners are really friendly. Well worth the visit.
  • Holy smokes there is some oversized melons to be seen here. It’s one of the must-see attractions in Port Villa, the market acts as the real city centre/main hub. There’s many small open markets throughout the island of Efate, but this is the big main one which supplies much of the commercial enterprise in port Villa. Prices can fluctuate (but it’s still very cheap) and it never actually closes. Local raspberries (Rubus Rosifolious), citrus, and of course bananas here are to die for. When visiting at night just leave the Vatu (money) on the benches in exchange for the produce wanted.
