Stop by Emperor Jade Pagoda, a colorful temple honoring the supreme Taoist god. Built by the Chinese community in 1909, the temple features a large statue of the God of Heavens, with two assistants seated in the central hall taking numerous offerings. Light a candle or burn incense, and observe worshippers reading sutras and socializing in the tropical garden outside the pagoda. Visit the central pond to see the many resident tortoises, which you can feed. Famous for its intensely colored life-size figurines--considered among the finest in the city--the temple serves as a vital and popular religious center. • Despite hardly visible from the street this pagoda is well worth visiting. Embrace the tranquility and watch the locals praying.

  • It was unimpressive (as a tourist). There were many people there praying—and I am writing this from the perspective of a tourist seeking a place to visit. The architecture is difficult to see from...

  • There is no fee to enter. Parking is at your own expense. In the temple, you can buy candles, fruits, etc. Beautiful, peaceful, and ancient
  • Probably my favourite temple in all of Vietnam. Free entry, very tranquil atmosphere and unbelievable architecture. If you have a hangover, this is the place to go..
  • Culturally the Jade Emperor temple is very unique and interesting. A must visit when you are in Saigon. Built by a Chinese community over 100 years ago at a spot of an ancient Vietnam temple this temple houses many deities that people come daily to pay homage to. There is a deity that governs various hell chambers so if a diseased was a sinner his relatives come and bring offerings to ask a lighter treatment in the afterlife. There is a goddess responsible for fertility and barren ladies frequent her with offerings to ask for a son or an offspring. If their wishes are granted then they come and offer gifts to the nannies of the goddess on each of 12 months of the baby’s first year. There is a deity of the Jade Emperor himself that parishioners believe created and governs the universe with the help of his advisors and generals. People bring him many generous offerings which later are donated to the needy. There is a deity for money and business which is frequented prior to making deals and contracts. There is also a deity for inconsistency of the universe which reminds people that nothing is static and fortunes can change for better or for worse.
  • Beautiful Buddhist temple, located only minutes away from the central business district. Small temple requires face masks while indoors.
  • The busy pagoda with a huge number of visitors, most of them are foreign tourists. The US president Obama visited this place when he came to Vietnam. Then it became more famous and have attracted more visitors. Honestly, there is nothing to see in this pagoda with small area in the downtown.
