Notre Dame Cathedral of Saigon stands as a testament to the impact of the French culture and Christian civilization on Indochina. The neo-Romanesque red-brick cathedral was considered the most beautiful church in the French colonies at the time it was built (between 1877 and 1883). The two belfries, which were added in 1895, rise to the height of 60 m (190 ft). See some of the original stained-glass windows inside the entrance and the devotional tablets on interior walls. The cathedral was the center of media attention in 2005, when thousands of devotees flocked around the Virgin Mary statue that reportedly shed tears in front of the main entrance. As most reviews have already mentioned, this is under construction and you can't go in. A local said it has been ongoing for a few years and you can only go in for worship. Not sure how true this...

Under renovation so closed, a pity. Only the front is covered in scaffolding. Use the time to walk around it's exterior. This will give you its size and exterior grandeur. It is a very impressive...

When we got there is was closed for visitation and we were on a tight schedule so we walked around and about a bit. The space outside was covered with beautiful flowers and we went around clicking pictures in the church garden. Do ask around when they would be open for visitation as we missed the stained glass windows inside.

Historic cathedral, and an iconic and building of Ho chi minh city. Beautiful French architecture, and there's a really clean and pretty park in front of the cathedral. As of August 2022, this building is still under renovation, and is almost completely surrounded by scaffolding. The renovation is going to last for a few more years, according to city officials.

In downtown Ho Chi Minh City, an important remnant of the French colonial period in Vietnam - the "Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception", most commonly known as "Notre-Dame Cathedral". It was built, between 1863 and 1880, by French Roman Catholics and was simply known as the "Church of Saigon". It is a neo-romanesque construction, with an all-red brick facade, two outstanding bell towers, six bronze bells and beautiful stained-glass windows. In 1959, a granite statue of Virgin Mary, depicted as "Our Lady of Peace", was brought from Italy and placed at "Paris Square", also known as "Notre-Dame Square", which is right in front of the ancient church. Immediately after, the "Church of Saigon" was designated as the city's Cathedral. It has been undergoing severe restoration works and has been closed to visitors for already a long time. Stroll along and try to imagine how beautiful it certainly is, a true landmark of the Roman Catholic presence in Southeast Asia. Enjoy! Read more

Notre Dame Cathedral was under restoration and not open for visiting. This structure looks grand and majestic even with scaffolding surrounding the cathedral.
-
The church was being renovated when we visited. However, you can still appreciate the architectural details.
