1. Interpretation Center

Enhance your tour of the Galapagos Islands with a visit to Interpretation Center, a project that aims to educate locals and tourists on the isles' species, plant life, and history. Opened in 1998, the center offers an extensive and comprehensive study of the island's life in both English and Spanish. Explore the detailed information on the origins of the islands, climate, ocean currents, and their remoteness from the rest of the continent.

2. La Loberia, San Cristobal

Visit a stretch of coast well known for its resident sea lions at La Loberia. On this sandy beach animals organize into colonies, with around 30 females and their cubs surrounding the dominant male of the group. Watch the way they interact and listen to the inimitable noises they make, making sure to stay back and heed the advice of the wardens--sea lions tend to be very territorial. Other than the main residents, you'll find yellow warbles, frigate birds, and plenty of species of finch, as well as large marine iguanas.

3. Kicker Rock

A popular dive site off of San Cristobal Island, Kicker Rock showcases a wealth of diverse and colorful marine life. The two rocks, which were once connected, reflect what’s left of a lava cone jutting 140 m (459 ft) out of the water. To visit the landmarks, you must travel with a certified guide, so reserve a boat tour or diving trip. If you approach from the south, you might notice the rock formations' resemblance to a sleeping lion, hence the Spanish name "leon dormido." The two rocks join together 19 m (62 ft) below the surface, forming a narrow channel that small boats can pass through. Don your snorkelling gear to see what’s swimming beneath the surface, namely tropical fish, hammerhead sharks, green turtles, and the Galapagos shark.
Suggested duration: 2h 30 min
