Best things to do in Vasilikos

The largest stretch of sand on the island, Banana Beach offers golden sands, a beautifully stark rocky landscape, and clear water. Facilities include beach chairs and umbrellas for rent and bars serving snacks and cold drinks. Watersports outfits provide numerous ways to get your thrills on or above the sea, such as parasailing, waterskiing, jetskiing, and being pulled behind a fast boat in various types of big inflatable devices. Plenty of parking is available if you plan to arrive by car.

One of the island's most scenic and unspoiled beaches, Gerakas Beach boasts golden sand and clear turquoise water. Rent a lounge chair or go for a dip along the calm, shallow shore. Amenities here are more limited than many beaches in the area, so bring a lunch or snacks and lots of water. Please be aware that this is a protected area of the National Marine Park and an important nesting ground for loggerhead turtles. Watch for any nests you may disrupt and if you are lucky enough to see a turtle hatch, do not disturb it.

Agios Dionisios Church stands as a church dedicated to the patron saint of the island. Agios Dionisios, or Saint Denis, was an aristocrat from 16th century who gave away all his wealth and became a priest. See the relics of Agios Dionisios, which stand today in a silver casket that is sometimes open for public to see. You can see the artwork in the church museum done by several famous Greek painters, as well.
