Best things to do in Zakopane

You can spot Gubalowka from a distance because of the Zakopane-Gubałówka transmitter on top, but what the mountain is really known for is the views of Zakopane and the Tatras mountain range. The valley beneath the mountain teems with restaurants and shops, and it serves as the starting point of many hiking trails that lead up to the summit and through the valley. Ride the funicular that takes you from the valley to a viewpoint on the mountain.

Gaze into Lake Morskie Oko and admire the reflection of snow-capped mountains on the surface of one of the deepest lakes in the Tatra mountains. One of the surrounding peaks is Rysy, the tallest of the Tatras. To fully appreciate its beauty, you'll have to hike up using a wide tarmac trail for 10 km (6.2 mi), or hitch a ride on a horse cart. You can travel to the base of the hiking trail by van from Zakopane's main road. A chalet at the top sells snacks, water, and other beverages for you to eat inside the chalet or outside; both options offer a view of the lake.

As the city's main walking street, Krupowki Street combines the vibe of a mountain town and small city. Brick and stone buildings line the cobblestone street, giving the area a rustic, welcoming feel. Browse through shops on the street level for crafts, gifts, and essentials, or sample food at a local eatery. It is the prime place to go for a hot beverage after a day on the slopes. Consider hiring a horse-drawn carriage to tour the street with a backdrop of the Tatra Mountains.

At Termy Zakopianskie, swim in a geothermal pool with a view of the highest Polish mountains, including the famous Mountain Giewont. The park features a sports pool, recreation pool with hydro water jets, slides, cascades, underwater lounger, and paddling pool. Check out the wild river, which is supposed to imitate a rapid, mountain stream with many curves and a strong current. Have a hydro massage, or relax in hot tubs and saunas. Bring your own towels to the sauna, or you will have to pay to use one. Amenities also include a sea-water hot tub, restaurant, and diving classes for children and adults.
