This little castle once formed part of a larger structure from medieval times. The Romanesque chapel there remains one of the country's major medieval landmarks, also one of the oldest of its kind in Europe.

Dating back to the 13th century, Škofja Loka Castle was largely destroyed by an earthquake in the 1500s. Today, the building provides a home to one of Slovenia's finest museums, with cultural, artistic, historical, archaeological, and ethnological collections. Visitors also have a chance to explore a preserved farmhouse in the castle garden, dating back from the 16th century.

Magic for hikers in all seasons, Velika Planina is at its liveliest during the warm months. If you go there in the summer, you'll see cattle taking advantage of the fresh grasses and perhaps have a chance to taste some fresh dairy delicacies by local farmers. Prepare for windy conditions at the summit.

A mighty walled castle towering over the city, Celje Castle is sure to leave you speechless. Its appearance dates back to the Counts of Celje, the most renowned and notable noble dynasty from the area in present-day Slovenia. During the summer, a live history program takes place there and offers an immersive experience as the visitors can take part in sword fights with knights, shoot with bows, and flirt with princesses. On the last Saturday in August, the the castle becomes a venue for a traditional medieval festival.

Opened to the public in the 1950s, Volčji Potok Arboretum once formed part of a family estate, eventually declared a place of natural and cultural heritage. Probably the most visited of all botanical gardens in the country, the place remains best known for its spring flower shows. Visitors come for the collection of woody plants from North America, Asia, and Europe.
