2. Vršič Pass

Renamed "Russian Road" in 2006, Vršič Pass is a high mountain pass that runs through the heart of the Julian Alps. The road was built 1,611 m (5,285 ft) above sea level during World War I by Russian prisoners of war. Hike the cobbled road or cycle to the summit while admiring the exceptional vistas of other peaks and slopes. Watch for Ajdovska Deklica, a naturally carved face of a maiden in a rock.
