1. Seoraksan National Park

Listed as a tentative World Heritage Site, Seoraksan National Park shelters rare animal and plant life on an area of 163.6 sq km (63.2 sq mi), popular among tourists and naturalists. Valued for its natural diversity, the park has registered about 1,010 species of plants and 1,560 species of animals. Black bears, Siberian flying squirrels, otters, and other animals roam the reserve, just make sure to follow all safety measures during encounters. Besides exploring the serene natural environment, you can also visit the Buddhist temples situated near the park. The mountainous area--covered in pine trees, oaks, and other deciduous trees--annually receives more than 1,000 millimeters of precipitation, so carry an umbrella just in case.

The oldest Zen temple in the world, Sinheungsa Temple serves as a pilgrimage destination for believers from all over the globe, as well as a popular tourist site. You can take a cable car or go by foot through the intact nature to reach the architectural marvel of the temple which, because of its colorful, intricate design, is often considered work of art. See the painted and engraved walls and sculptures, of which the bronze statue of Buddha stands out as the most significant. If you're lucky, you might get to see some clothes belonging to a famous monk, which appear on display every once in a while.

5. Biryong Falls
Biryong Falls (비룡폭포 in Hanguk) is a waterfall in Seoraksan National Park in Sokcho, located halfway between Yukdam Falls and Towangseong Falls. The loud falling water of falls is said to resemble dragons flying up towards the sky, which is why it was named Biryong (flying dragon) Falls. The frozen waterfall in winter is another magnificent sight.
