Take a journey to the jungle and get close to exotic animals at Khao Kheow Open Zoo. Situated deep in the jungle, about 100 km (62 mi) from Bangkok, the zoo showcases rare animals such as red pandas and tigers. Make your way through by guided tour, bicycle, or electric cart. You can opt to take a night safari, although visibility can be more limited. Bring snacks with you, as you won't find anywhere selling food on site save for a convenience store.

Go below sea level at Rayong Aquarium, dedicated to Thailand's aquaculture. The 43 tanks here recreate natural habitats for a variety of species. Walk through the underwater glass tunnel to get an up-close look at the huge fish swimming overhead. Try to spot saltwater and freshwater creatures, including sea urchins, turtles, big grouper, sea horses, and lobsters. Step outside for a view of the outdoor shark and stingray pond. Stop by the onsite shell museum, and don't miss the exhibit of traditional handpainted fishing boats.
