7. The Wilds, Cumberland

Visit rare and endangered animals in a natural, outdoor setting at The Wilds. The safari park and conservation center houses animals from around the world like rhinos, giraffes, bison, camels, cheetahs, and other uncommon creatures. The park aims to promote conservation through education and personal experiences with the animals. The nearly 4,000 hectare (10,000 acre) park includes a birding station, and butterfly habitat, and a 10 hectare (27 acre) Carnivore Conservation Center. Over 24 km (15 mi) of mountain biking and hiking trails wind through the park, and it contains more than 150 lakes. Take the basic safari tour to learn about the endangered animals from a knowledgeable guide, or try a tour with one of the park's staff members who will take you through their day-to-day work with the animals.

9. Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, Weston

Explore a historical psychiatric hospital at Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, which was open from 1864 to 1994. Now a National Historic Landmark, the imposing main building is one of the largest hand-cut stone masonry buildings in the world. The hospital was designed to accommodate just 250 patients but became crowded with about 2,400 patients, living in poor conditions, during the 1950s.
