2. Comal River

Perfect your rafting or kayaking skills on Comal River, one of the shortest navigable rivers in the world. Although this river runs for just 4 km (2.5 mi), it maintains a constant and very comfortable temperature of about 22 C (72 F), making it an ideal location for scuba divers and for the fountain darter--a species of fish in danger of extinction. The river features a tube chute and several wide and gentle stretches, making it popular with families with small kids learning to swim and snorkel. There are limited tourist facilities on the river, so be sure to bring your own gear and supplies.
