4. Kartchner Caverns State Park, Benson

At Kartchner Caverns State Park, you'll discover a 3.9 km (2.4 mi) long limestone cave, with formations that have accumulated for over 50,000 years. The cave is known for some of the world's longest "soda straw" stalactites, an 18 m (58 ft) tall column, and a room with the world's most extensive formation of moonmilk--a white and creamy cave substance. Visit the 2,100 sq m (23,000 sq ft) visitor center, where you'll hear about the geology, the bat population, and the paleontology of these caverns. There are picnic places and camp sites in the area. Check at the visitor center to be sure the caves are open--at certain times during summer the caverns are closed because bats colonize them.
