Emerald of the Atlantic
With 21 lush islands scattered among pristine waters in the Atlantic Ocean, a Fernando de Noronha holiday is well worth the effort it takes to get there. More than 350 km (220 mi) from the easternmost tip of the Brazilian mainland, this World Heritage Site was discovered by Portuguese explorers in the early 16th century, and is nowadays accessible by airplane or cruise liner. Several species of rare native birds populate the islands, while the nearby waters brim with humpback whales, sea turtles, and various species of dolphin. Much of the territory surrounding the archipelago enjoys protection as a marine national park, which has helped keep the area picturesque and unspoiled by excessive development. Plan your holiday in Fernando de Noronha and other destinations, from the rural, to the urban, and everything in between, using our Brazil trip maker site.

Where to stay in Fernando de Noronha

The bad news is that, if you're on a budget, your trip to Fernando de Noronha might be starting to look a whole lot more expensive than you'd planned. Accommodations on the remote archipelago are understandably expensive, as all food and supplies have to be specially shipped in. All lodgings are on the largest island, Fernando de Noronha, which is the only one permanently inhabited in the archipelago. The majority of options consist of guesthouses and boutique hotels concentrated in the center of Vila dos Remédios, the island's town. However, look a bit farther outside of town and you can find some excellent eco-resorts and beachside accommodations.
