Calling itself "Germany's most beautiful corner," Koblenz is tucked in the picturesque valley formed by the Rhine and Moselle rivers and is one of the most popular spots on tourist itineraries. More than two millennia ago, an ambitious Roman general named Drusus established the city as a military post. Today, it's the gateway to the country's famous Mosel wine region, known worldwide for its high-quality dry white wines. The city is also a notable beer center. Local breweries produce several brands of popular bitter beers. Koblenz's main attractions include the bridges spanning the two rivers, plus the ancient defensive works, whose forts and citadels crown the hills.
