Yomitan-son, a village located on the western coast of central Okinawa Island, possesses cultural and natural attractions. In fact, the history of the area has left it with a number of cultural attractions, perhaps disproportionate to its size. Such attractions of Yomitan-son include Ryukyu ruins, and sites relating to the harrowing experience of the village during World War II. Its history of folk crafts also shines through, with the pottery and glass-blowing skills of the locals something to behold. And then, of course, people come here for the beaches--unspoiled, large, and picture-perfect. Plan your visit to Yomitan-son and other destinations in Japan using our Japan road trip planning app.

Our expert advice on where to stay in Yomitan-son

Many visitors to Yomitan-son are exclusively interested in its coastline, so developers have largely pandered to such wishes. You'll find a number of resorts, either on the coast directly west of the town center, or north and south along the shoreline. Looking out across beaches and with ample grounds for pools, restaurants, and the like, they represent the luxury options in town. Head inland a little and you'll find some more humble offerings, including guesthouses and simpler hotels.
