Biggest Little City in the World
A sea of casinos in the high desert of the Sierra Nevadas, Reno capitalizes on gaming and nightlife. The city of more than 230,000 supports more than a dozen casinos and thousands of digital gaming machines, table games, and more. Nightlife comes in all forms, from throw-backs to the Old West including taverns and saloons to dance halls, sports bars, pool halls, everyday lounges, and upscale gastropubs. The city's dizzying array of neon signs downtown sit in stark contrast to the mountain scenery that serves as a backdrop. As the closest big city to the picturesque lake that borders California and Nevada, Reno also hosts travelers looking for a variety of lodging options close to outdoor attractions. Take a look at our United States road trip planning site to refine the details of your trip to Reno.

Our expert advice on where to stay in Reno

Since Reno's casinos want you to save your money for the blackjack table, they offer some very reasonable rates on their rooms. Even a stay in one of the amenity-rich resort- or spa-style casinos downtown can be quite affordable. Plenty of hotels, motels, inns, and lodges are scattered throughout town, though most lie in and around downtown. If you're planning to ski in the mountains west of town, staying near Interstate 80 can save a couple minutes on your commute. Accommodations in Reno generally remain easy to find, but the days before and after the popular Burning Man festival in the desert east of the city tend to see a bump in visitors. Consider booking ahead if your visit coincides with the festival.
