The place where Cretan and Venetian cultures merged in the 13th century, Chania Town attracts throngs of tourists with its well-preserved medieval harbor.

Tallinn, Estonia to Chania Town is an approximately 9.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of car and ferry; or do a combination of bus and ferry. Plan for a bit warmer temperatures traveling from Tallinn in July, with highs in Chania Town at 37°C and lows at 25°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 22nd (Sat) early enough to go by car to Rethymnon.

Rethymnon combines the old-fashioned charm of a small town with proximity to long sandy beaches with all the modern conveniences usually found in big tourist resorts.
Get out of town with these interesting Rethymnon side-trips: Matala Beach (in Matala), The Palace of Knossos (in Knosos) and Preveli Beach (in Lefkogia). You can drive from Chania Town to Rethymnon in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. July in Rethymnon sees daily highs of 37°C and lows of 25°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 25th (Tue) to allow enough time to take a shuttle to Heraklion.

Heraklion — 3 nights

Crete's largest city, Heraklion remains best known for its proximity to a sprawling Bronze Age archaeological site, once the center of a vanished Minoan civilization.
Go for a jaunt from Heraklion to Elounda to see Spinalonga (Kalydon) about 1h 15 min away. The adventure continues: relax and rejuvenate at Aegeo Spas, explore the historical opulence of Castello del Molo (Koules), and admire the local landmark of Morosini Fountain (Lion's Fountain).

You can take a shuttle from Rethymnon to Heraklion in an hour. Other options are to drive; or take a bus. In July, daily temperatures in Heraklion can reach 34°C, while at night they dip to 26°C. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 28th (Fri) to allow time for travel back home.
