In many ways much more Asian than American, Honolulu is Hawaii's largest city and its center of government, transportation, commerce, and tourism.

Take a break from the city and head to Waikiki Beach and Koko Crater Railway Trail. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Makapuu Lighthouse Trail and Ko Olina Lagoons. Explore the numerous day-trip ideas around Honolulu: Kailua (Lanikai Beach & Kailua Beach Park). There's lots more to do: take in the pleasant sights at Diamond Head State Monument, take some stellar pictures from Lanikai Pillboxes, identify plant and animal life at Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve, and stop by Crack Seed Store.

Newark to Honolulu is an approximately 11-hour flight. The time zone changes from Eastern Standard Time to Hawaii-Aleutian Standard Time, which is usually a -5 hour difference. In May, Honolulu is somewhat warmer than Newark - with highs of 84°F and lows of 71°F. On the 31st (Tue), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can drive to Hauula.

Hauula is a census-designated place and rural community in the Koolauloa District on the island of Oahu, City & County of Honolulu. Kick off your visit on the 1st (Wed): view the masterpieces at Haleiwa Art Gallery, then enjoy the sand and surf at Sunset Beach Park, and then make a trip to Polynesian Cultural Center.

Getting from Honolulu to Hauula by car takes about an hour. Plan for slightly colder temperatures traveling from Honolulu in May, with highs in Hauula at 79°F and lows at 65°F. On the 2nd (Thu), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can travel back home.
