Washington DC — 9 nights

National Air and Space Museum and Capitol Hill are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Step off the beaten path and head to National Museum of African American History and Culture and Smithsonian Institution Building. Get out of town with these interesting Washington DC side-trips: Catoctin Creek Distillery (in Purcellville), Manassas National Battlefield Park (in Manassas) and Chrysalis Vineyards at The Ag District (in Middleburg). There's still lots to do: brush up on your military savvy at National Museum of the Marine Corps, witness the site of a historic battle at Fredericksburg & Spotsylvania National Military Park, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, and get to know the fascinating history of The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
