Grand Rapids — 10 nights

Furniture City

The second largest city in Michigan and a hub of furniture manufacturing, Grand Rapids bears the nickname "Furniture City." However, the destination's original name came from the rapids of the Grand River that once ran through the downtown area.
Kids will enjoy Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park and Gerald R. Ford Museum. Get out of town with these interesting Grand Rapids side-trips: Michigan's Adventure (in Muskegon), Stony Lake Stables (in New Era) and Saugatuck (Butler Street, Oval Beach, &more). Pack the 4th (Fri) with family-friendly diversions at Nelis' Dutch Village. Next up on the itinerary: admire the striking features of Meyer May House, walk around Stearns Park, enjoy the sand and surf at Silver Beach County Park, and test your problem-solving skills at popular escape rooms.

In July, plan for daily highs up to 82°F, and evening lows to 61°F.
