The tiny but densely populated city of Male represents a contrast to the laid-back beach resorts found in much of the rest of the Maldives.Visit Grand Friday Mosque and Medhu Ziyaarath for their historical value. Get a sense of the local culture at National Museum and Mulee Aage. Get out of town with these interesting Male side-trips: Veli Spa at Kurumba Maldives (in Vihamanafushi), Hulhumale Central Park (in Hulhumale) and HP Reef (in Furanafushi Island). There's much more to do: kick back and relax at Hulhumale Beach, indulge in some culinary diversions at a local gastronomic tour, browse the eclectic array of goods at Male Fish Market, and appreciate the history behind Victory Monument.

Maldives travel guide
Maldives has come to be seen as a quintessential island holiday destination, with entire sand-circled islands owned by resorts, who manage each part of the island's environment to give it the look and feel of paradise. The clear waters surrounding the islands offer plentiful dive sites, rich in tropical fish and coral formations, with the smaller, less-populated islands surrounded by the richest marine environments, largely undisturbed by industry and tourism. Larger islands here offer an array of bars, restaurants, and clubs--their higher population means they also feature religious sites and markets selling local produce.
