Situated in a basin between two mountain ranges, Taipei appeals to tourists with its blend of Asian cultures, living side by side amidst Japanese-era mansions and Taoist temples.
Head to Chiufen (Jiufen Old Street) and Taipei 101for plenty of shopping. National Palace Museum and Lungshan Temple are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Singapore, Singapore to Taipei is an approximately 8-hour flight. You can also do a combination of car and ferry. When traveling from Singapore in December, plan for cooler days and little chillier nights in Taipei: temperatures range from 23°C by day to 18°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 6th (Tue) to allow enough time to take a train to Xiulin.

Xiulin — 2 nights

Xiulin Township or Sioulin Township is a mountain indigenous township of Hualien County, Taiwan. Kick off your visit on the 7th (Wed): explore the fascinating underground world of Cave of Water Curtain, get outside with Baiyang Trail, and then get outside with Taroko Gorge. Here are some ideas for day two: hike along Zhuilu Old Trail, head outdoors with Shakadang Trail, and then trek along Xiao Zhui Lu Trail.

You can take a train from Taipei to Xiulin in 3 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. Finish your sightseeing early on the 8th (Thu) to allow enough time to take a train to Hualien City.

Hualien City — 2 nights

Huashi

Nestled between the sea and the mountains, Hualien boasts a number of attractions, both natural and manmade.

Traveling by train from Xiulin to Hualien City takes 2 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. Cap off your sightseeing on the 10th (Sat) early enough to go by car to Hengchun.

Hengchun — 3 nights

Located on the southern tip of the eponymous peninsula, Hengchun serves as the entry point to Kenting National Park, often attracting more travelers than locals with its tropical beach resorts and bustling night markets.
Start off your visit on the 11th (Sun): head outdoors with Outdoor Activities and then enjoy the sand and surf at White Sand Bay. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 12th (Mon): explore the striking landscape of Kenting National Park.

You can drive from Hualien City to Hengchun in 4.5 hours. Other options are to do a combination of flight and bus; or do a combination of train and bus. Expect a daytime high around 29°C in December, and nighttime lows around 20°C. On the 13th (Tue), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can travel back home.
