Getting from Lake Placid to Lake George by car takes about 1.5 hours. Other options: take a bus. Traveling from Lake Placid in May, expect a bit warmer with lows of 9°C in Lake George. Finish your sightseeing early on the 23rd (Tue) so you can drive to Old Forge.

Start off your visit on the 24th (Wed): look for gifts at Hoss's Country Corner, get engrossed in the history at Adirondack Experience, The Museum on Blue Mountain Lake, and then take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Blue Mountain.
