Gobustan — 1 night

Gobustan Rock Art Cultural Landscape (UNESCO Heritage) covers three areas of a plateau of rocky boulders rising out of the semi-desert of central Azerbaijan, with an outstanding collection of more than 6,000 rock engravings bearing testimony to 40,000 years of rock art.
On the 20th (Fri), contemplate the long history of Diri Baba Mausoleum. Here are some ideas for day two: make a trip to Mud Volcanoes and then get a new perspective on nature at Gobustan State Reserve.

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to Gobustan is an approximately 7.5-hour flight. Due to the time zone difference, you'll lose 1 hour traveling from Riyadh to Gobustan. When traveling from Riyadh in January, plan for much colder days in Gobustan, with highs around 8°C, while nights are a bit cooler with lows around 2°C. On the 21st (Sat), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can drive to Gusar.

A Young Spirit Located in an Ancient Land

Famous as the birthplace of legendary poet Nizami, Ganja is a truly ancient city still bearing traces of the myriad kingdoms and empires that ruled over it in the past.
Spend the 24th (Tue) exploring at Lake Goygol. There's lots more to do: identify plant and animal life at Maralgol lake, take in the spiritual surroundings of Imamzadeh Mausoleum, admire the landmark architecture of Bottle House, and browse the different shops at Ganja Mall.
