One of the world's most ancient cities, Athens remains Europe's undisputed historical and cultural capital.Visit Acropolis of Athens and Areopagus for their historical value. Museum-lovers will appreciate Acropolis Museum and National Archaeological Museum. Often called "Kastropolis" because of its majestic Venetian castle, Corfu Town once featured such extensive fortifications that a force of over 20,000 soldiers defended them.Get a sense of the local culture at Corfu Museum of Asian Art and Old Fortress Corfu. Church of Saint Spiridon and New Fortress of Corfu will appeal to history buffs. Go for a jaunt from Corfu Town to Paleokastritsa to see Paleokastritsa Beach about 36 minutes away. There's still lots to do: take a stroll through Corfu Old Town and get engrossed in the history at Archaeological Museum of Corfu.
