On the 15th (Tue), get to know the resident critters at Wellington Zoo, brush up on your military savvy at National War Memorial, then admire the striking features of Old St Paul's, then take a memorable ride with Wellington Cable Car, and finally examine the collection at Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa.

You can fly from Queenstown to Wellington in 3 hours. Other options are to do a combination of car and ferry; or do a combination of bus and ferry. In August in Wellington, expect temperatures between 15°C during the day and 9°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 15th (Tue) early enough to fly to Taupo.

On the 16th (Wed), take in the dramatic natural features at Craters of the Moon, then look for gifts at Huka Honey Hive, then take in the natural beauty of Wairakei Natural Thermal Valley, and finally don't miss a visit to Maori Rock Carvings. On the next day, get the adrenaline pumping with an extreme tour, bet on your favorite at Formula Challenge Racing, then race across the water with a speed boat tour, and finally admire the sheer force of Huka Falls Walkway.

On the 18th (Fri), take in the natural beauty of Te Puia, then test the waters at a local thermal spa, and then whizz through the canopy at some of the top local zipline courses and adventure parks. On the next day, take a pleasant ride with a tour on horseback, don't miss a visit to Fancy Meow Cat Cafe, then look for all kinds of wild species at Paradise Valley Springs Wildlife Park, and finally take a tour by water with Boat Tours & Water Sports.

You can drive from Taupo to Rotorua in 1.5 hours. Other options are to drive; or take a bus. Expect a daytime high around 17°C in August, and nighttime lows around 7°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 19th (Sat) so you can catch the flight to Auckland.
