New York City, USA to Kaohsiung is an approximately 20.5-hour combination of flight and train. You can also fly. Due to the time zone difference, you'll lose 13 hours traveling from New York City to Kaohsiung. Plan for warmer temperatures traveling from New York City in November, with highs in Kaohsiung at 84°F and lows at 71°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 16th (Thu) so you can travel to Yuchi.

Start off your visit on the 17th (Fri): take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Jinlong Mountain, then contemplate the waterfront views at Sun Moon Lake, and then steep yourself in history at Wenwu Temple.

Do a combination of train and taxi from Kaohsiung to Yuchi in 2 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a train. Traveling from Kaohsiung in November, expect Yuchi to be slightly colder, temps between 79°F and 64°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 17th (Fri) to allow time to take a bus to Xiulin.

Start off your visit on the 18th (Sat): hike along Hehuanshan East Peak Trail, then head outdoors with Lushui Trail, and then head outdoors with Taroko Gorge. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 19th (Sun): cruise along Su-Hua Highway, then take in the dramatic natural features at Ch'ing-shui Cliff, then pause for some photo ops at Eternal Spring Shrine, and finally head outdoors with Shakadang Trail.

Take a bus from Yuchi to Xiulin in 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive. Cap off your sightseeing on the 19th (Sun) early enough to catch the train to Taipei.
