Olympic National Park — 2 nights

In Olympic National Park, ancient rainforests and ocean tidal pools at lower elevations contrast with wildflower-filled alpine meadows and snowcapped peaks.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Olympic National Park and Hoodsport Winery. There's still lots to do: kick back and relax at Ruby Beach, cruise along Hurricane Ridge, and delve into the lush surroundings at Hoh Rain Forest Visitor Center.

Astoria, named for famed fur trader John Jacob Astor, resides near the mouth of the Columbia River.
On the 11th (Tue), steep yourself in history at Lewis & Clark Salt Works, then immerse yourself in nature at Ecola State Park, then kick back and relax at Cannon Beach, and finally view the masterpieces at Cannon Beach Gallery. On the next day, steep yourself in history at Clark's Dismal Nitch, then enjoy the sand and surf at Long Beach, then snap pictures at Astoria-Megler Bridge, and finally appreciate the history behind Astoria Column.

A town that survives on the sea, Newport's population of just over 10,000 supports a healthy commercial fishing industry.
Explore hidden gems such as Otter Crest Loop and Bazalgette the Whale at Whale Park. Get out of town with these interesting Newport side-trips: Yachats (Yachats coastline & Cape Perpetua Visitor Center - Siuslaw National Forest) and Florence (Heceta Head Lighthouse & Sandland Adventures). There's still lots to do: tour the pleasant surroundings at Nye Beach, enjoy the sea views from Yaquina Head Lighthouse, take a leisurely stroll along Newport's Historic Bayfront, and enjoy the sand and surf at Devils Punchbowl State Natural Area.

You can drive from Astoria to Newport in 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. Expect a bit cooler temperatures when traveling from Astoria in July; daily highs in Newport reach 63°F and lows reach 50°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 16th (Sun) to allow time to drive to Bend.

An old logging town at the crux of the high desert and ponderosa pine forest, Bend melds a love of the outdoors with cosmopolitan flair.
Step off the beaten path and head to Off-Road Tours and Sunriver Country Store. Step out of Bend with an excursion to Smith Rock State Park in Redmond--about 38 minutes away. And it doesn't end there: contemplate the geological forces at Newberry National Volcanic Monument, make a trip to Pilot Butte State Scenic Viewpoint, let the river carry you with a rafting and tubing tour, and see the interesting displays at High Desert Museum.

You can drive from Newport to Bend in 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of bus and flight; or take a bus. Traveling from Newport in July, you will find days in Bend are much hotter (85°F), and nights are about the same (52°F). Wrap up your sightseeing on the 19th (Wed) early enough to drive to Ashland.

Ashland is a city in Jackson County, in the State of Oregon. Start off your visit on the 20th (Thu): relax and float downstream with a rafting and tubing tour. On the 21st (Fri), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: indulge in some personalized pampering at some of the best spas, then stroll around Lithia Park, and then see a show at Oregon Shakespeare Festival.
