Khorixas is a town of 6,000 inhabitants in southern Kunene Region, Namibia. Venture out of the city with trips to Kamanjab (Burnt Mountain, Otjikandero Himba Orphanage Village, &more). There's much more to do: take a peaceful walk through Petrified Forest, examine the collection at Experience Darama Culture Museum, and take in the dramatic natural features at Burnt Mountain.

One of the undeveloped regions of Namibia, Kunene lies in the northeastern reaches, cut off from the rest of the country by a mountainous landscape. The Himba ethnic group make their home here, renowned for their ability to survive and adapt in some of the severest conditions. If you make the trip to Kunene, try to bring sugar, coffee, or tobacco to trade with the locals, who are skilled artisans of pottery, jewelry, and leather.
