George Town, Malaysia to Hsinchu is an approximately 12.5-hour combination of flight and car. Traveling from George Town to Hsinchu, you'll lose 1 hour due to the time zone difference. Expect a daytime high around 37°C in June, and nighttime lows around 30°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 12th (Mon) to allow enough time to take a train to Tainan.

Start off your visit on the 12th (Mon): see the interesting displays at Chimei Museum, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Confucius Temple, then contemplate the long history of Chihkan Tower (Fort Provintia), and finally contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Ji Dian Wu Miao. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: get to know the fascinating history of Shennong Street, appreciate the extensive heritage of Anping Fort (Anping gubao), then contemplate the long history of Anping Tree House, and finally admire the landmark architecture of Hayashi Department Store.

Take a train from Hsinchu to Tainan in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 14th (Wed) so you can go by car to Kaohsiung.

On the 14th (Wed), view the masterpieces at The Pier-2 Art Centre, get engrossed in the history at Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum, and then browse the fresh offerings at Freedom Sunset Market. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 15th (Thu): contemplate the waterfront views at Lianchi (Lotus) Lake, don't miss a visit to Dragon Tiger Tower, then head off the coast to Cijin Island, and finally ponder the world of politics at Kaohsiung Main Public Library.

Getting from Tainan to Kaohsiung by car takes about an hour. Other options: drive; or take a train. In June, daily temperatures in Kaohsiung can reach 38°C, while at night they dip to 30°C. You'll have a few hours on the 16th (Fri) to wrap things up before traveling to Hualien City.

Take a train from Kaohsiung to Hualien City in 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive. Finish your sightseeing early on the 18th (Sun) to allow enough time to take a train to Yilan City.

Change things up with a short trip to Waiao Beach in Toucheng (about 32 minutes away).
