Kunene Region travel guide
One of the undeveloped regions of Namibia, Kunene lies in the northeastern reaches, cut off from the rest of the country by a mountainous landscape. The Himba ethnic group make their home here, renowned for their ability to survive and adapt in some of the severest conditions. If you make the trip to Kunene, try to bring sugar, coffee, or tobacco to trade with the locals, who are skilled artisans of pottery, jewelry, and leather. The harsh, dry climate renders agriculture nearly impossible, and a diverse wildlife thrives here, unthreatened by humans.
