Known as the "Venice of America" because of its extensive network of navigable waterways, Fort Lauderdale welcomes over 10 million annual visitors, most of them attracted by the city's popular beaches and marinas.
Kids will appreciate attractions like Cypress Outdoor Adventures and Fort Lauderdale Beach. Get out of town with these interesting Fort Lauderdale side-trips: Panther Ridge Conservation Center (in Wellington), Wakodahatchee Wetlands (in Delray Beach) and Loggerhead Marinelife Center (in Juno Beach). Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to Fort Lauderdale is an approximately 12-hour flight. The time zone changes from Brasilia Standard Time to Eastern Standard Time, which is usually a -2 hour difference. Traveling from Rio de Janeiro in January, things will get little chillier in Fort Lauderdale: highs are around 28°C and lows about 19°C. On the 20th (Fri), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can drive to Miami.

Theme Park Capital of the World

For most people, any mention of Orlando immediately conjures up images of sprawling theme parks filled with characters plucked right out of popular animated movies.
Attractions like Magic Kingdom Park and Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park make great kid-friendly stops. Pack the 26th (Thu) with family-friendly diversions at Universal's Islands of Adventure. Have a day of magic on the 29th (Sun) at Walt Disney World Resort. You can fly from Miami to Orlando in 3 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. In January, Orlando is slightly colder than Miami - with highs of 25°C and lows of 13°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 31st (Tue) so you can go by car to Tampa.
