Auckland, New Zealand to Tokyo is an approximately 14-hour flight. Traveling from Auckland to Tokyo, you'll gain 3 hours due to the time zone difference. When traveling from Auckland in October, plan for somewhat warmer days and about the same nights in Tokyo: temperatures range from 26°C by day to 18°C at night. On the 25th (Wed), you'll travel to Kyoto.

Fly from Tokyo to Kyoto in 3 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or drive. In October, daily temperatures in Kyoto can reach 27°C, while at night they dip to 18°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 1st (Wed) early enough to catch the train to Osaka.

Step off the beaten path and head to Koyasan Okunoin and The Tower of the Sun. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Osaka: Sakurai (Hase-dera Temple, Tanzan Shrine, &more), Koya-cho (Koyasan Danjo Garan, Kongobu-ji Temple, &more) and Toshodai-ji Temple (in Nara). And it doesn't end there: get in on the family fun at Universal Studios Japan, admire the landmark architecture of Umeda Sky Building, take a stroll through Dotombori District, and contemplate the long history of Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine.
