Auckland — 24 nights
City of Sails
The largest and most populous city in New Zealand, Auckland combines a rich history and thriving contemporary culture in an abundance of museums, art galleries, and performance venues. You'll get in some beach time at Bethells Beach and St. Helier's Bay. Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Ponsonby and La Cigale French Market. Explore Auckland's surroundings by going to Kitekite Falls (in Piha), Mangawhai Walkway (in Mangawhai) and Waipu Scottish Migration Museum (in Waipu). Dedicate the 5th (Sun) to wine at some of the top wineries in the area. There's much more to do: enjoy the sea views from Manukau Heads Lighthouse, admire the sheer force of Hunua Falls, find your balance on the water with some of the best stand-up paddleboarding in the area, and get engrossed in the history at Auckland Museum.
