Birthplace of the Portuguese Nationality
The historical town of Guimarães was the birthplace of the first Portuguese king and served as the country's first capital.Museum-lovers will appreciate O Navio Gil Eannes and 9 Seculos. Visit Centro Historico de Guimaraes and Paco dos Duques de Braganca for their historical value. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Guimaraes: Pinhao (Quinta do Bomfim & The Douro Valley), Praia da Arda (in Afife) and Santuario de Santa Luzia (in Viana do Castelo). There's more to do: explore the historical opulence of Guimaraes Castle and pause for some serene contemplation at Se de Braga.
