A big city with a small-town feel, Portland is home to the country's biggest rose test garden, perched on a hill overlooking downtown.

Escape the urban bustle at Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area and Volcano Lands - Private Tours. Take a break from Portland with a short trip to Hood River Distillers Tasting Room in Hood River, about 1h 15 min away. Dedicate the 11th (Sat) to wine at some of the top wineries in the area. There's lots more to do: sample some tasty brews at a beer tour and tasting, take a stroll through Ladd's Addition, get a taste of the local shopping with Northwest (Nob Hill), and look for gifts at Powell's City of Books.
