Ponta Delgada, Sao Miguel — 5 nights

As the busy capital of São Miguel, Ponta Delgada represents the most visited place on the island.Do some cultural sightseeing at Nossa Senhora da Paz and Igreja do Santo Cristo. Step off the beaten path and head to Caldeira das Sete Cidades and Scuba & Snorkeling. Step out of Ponta Delgada with an excursion to Pico do Ferro Viewpoint in Furnas--about 38 minutes away. There's still lots to do: tour the pleasant surroundings at Caldeira Velha Environmental Interpretation Centre, kick back and relax at Praia de Santa Barbara, ride a horse along Quinta da Terca, and explore the activities along Lagoas Empadadas.
