The main town on the largest of Korea's islands, Jeju, has a volcanic landscape protected by UNESCO. The World Heritage-listed volcanic island includes the country's highest peak, sets of impressive lava tubes and columns, and several crater lakes.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Jeju: Seogwipo (O’sulloc Tea Museum, Seongsan Ilchulbong, &more). Spend the 20th (Tue) wandering through the wild on a nature and wildlife tour. Busan is known for sightseeing, beaches, and shopping. Your trip includes some of its best attractions: enjoy the sand and surf at Haeundae Beach, don't miss a visit to Seokbulsa Temple, stroll around Yongdusan Park, and contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Haedong Yonggungsa.

You can fly from Jeju to Busan in 2.5 hours. Other options are to do a combination of ferry and car; or do a combination of ferry, taxi, and train. In December in Busan, expect temperatures between 10°C during the day and 0°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 28th (Wed) early enough to drive to Gyeongju.

Museum Without Walls

One of the most popular tourist destinations in the Republic of Korea, Gyeongju combines a rich cultural heritage with mountain and coastal scenery.
On the 29th (Thu), see the interesting displays at Gyeongju National Museum and then explore the activities along Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 30th (Fri): take in the spiritual surroundings of Bulguksa Temple and then appreciate the history behind Seokguram.

You can drive from Busan to Gyeongju in 1.5 hours. Other options are to take a bus; or take a train. When traveling from Busan in December, plan for a bit cooler days in Gyeongju, with highs around 3°C, while nights are about the same with lows around 0°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 30th (Fri) to allow enough time to fly to Sokcho.

Tourism in Sokcho mostly revolves around the local national park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

Chuncheon — 2 nights

The capital of the country's northernmost province, the city of Chuncheon acts a gateway to the wilder sights of the rural region.
Start off your visit on the 3rd (Tue): take in the spiritual surroundings of Cheongpyeongsa and then pause for some photo ops at Statue of Peace. On the next day, take in nature's colorful creations at Jade Garden Natural Arboretum, then head off the coast to Nami Island, and then step off the mainland to explore Jarasum Island.

Traveling by car from Sokcho to Chuncheon takes 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. In January, daily temperatures in Chuncheon can reach 1°C, while at night they dip to -7°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 4th (Wed) so you can travel to Icheon.
