A truly contemporary city criss-crossed by history, Baku offers everything from the modern elegance of the Flame Towers to the medieval UNESCO-listed Old City at its core.

Go for a jaunt from Baku to Shuvelan to see Mosque Mir Movsum Agha about 40 minutes away. Dedicate the 12th (Sun) to wine at some of the top wineries in the area. Traveling by car from Sheki to Gabala takes 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. Expect a daytime high around 9°C in February, and nighttime lows around -1°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 28th (Tue) so you can catch the flight to Nakhchivan.

Nakhchivan, an autonomous Azerbaijani republic, remains a region of breathtaking landscapes, quaint villages, and a cuisine distinct from the rest of the country.

You can fly from Gabala to Nakhchivan in 2.5 hours. Other options are to drive; or do a combination of taxi, train, and bus. Expect a bit cooler evenings in Nakhchivan when traveling from Gabala in February, with lows around -4°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 5th (Sun) so you can travel to Gusar.

Azerbaijan's "northern gates" promise breathtaking Caucasus Mountain scenery, home to some of the country’s highest peaks, a classy ski resort, traditional rustic villages, and tasty Lezgi cuisine.

Getting from Nakhchivan to Gusar by combination of flight and bus takes about 6.5 hours. Other options: drive; or take a bus. In March in Gusar, expect temperatures between 15°C during the day and 3°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 7th (Tue) so you can drive to Khizi.

Khizi's swirling pink mountains are quite simply an extraordinary sight to behold.

You can drive from Gusar to Khizi in 2 hours. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 9th (Thu) to allow time for the car ride to Lankaran.
